There are many Muslim tourists in Japan now, and it’s been increasing each year. Before discussing about Halal food, it’s important to note that Japanese in general still lack the understanding of religion - for that reason, it’s expected that services and facilities (such as prayer rooms) can be very limited.
There are only a small number of places that provide Halal food. Although some restaurants may indicate that they serve “Halal” on their website or menu, it’s very likely that there are restaurants preparing their food in the same kitchen as non-halal dishes.
[Where to find Halal Food]
When making an itinerary to Japan, we strongly suggest you to research thoroughly on the internet or contact tourist information centers (such as the “Culture Tourist Information Center” in Tokyo). They will most likely have answers to where you can find muslim-friendly restaurants.
Some locations include major airports and large hotels. Because there are many foreign visitors, you should also note that some of them require prior reservations (several days for booking and preparing proper halal meals).
