Beautiful displays and workshops with the Memphis Bonsai Society.

Origami, calligraphy, Japanese toys and books provided by Memphis Botanic Garden and The University of Memphis Language Department

Fun and interesting lectures and workshops about Japan and Japanese culture.
★ Hello Kitty and Ninja Turtle Bounce Houses
★ Kimono Dressing Experience
Buy a new kimono at the Festival or bring your kimono to the Festival, and our kimono dressing volunteers will help you dress. We suggest ladies wear a tank-top and leggings or light sun dress and men wear shorts and a tank top, but we can dress kimono over any clothing.
★ Fairies and Frogs Face Painting
Japanese-themed face painting.
★ Goldfish Scooping
Scoop goldfish from a pool with a paper scooper called a “poi”. Requiring care and speed, the game is over when the poi is broken.
★ Japan Outreach Initiative
Calligraphy bookmark workshop and yoyo fishing hosted by Austin Peay State University, Hendrix College, Jackson State University and University of Central Arkansas.
★ Main Stage Interactive Experiences
Kararte+Fit Zen Yoga Session, Sol Kendamas demos and The University of Memphis Dance Circle.
★ Manga and Manhwa Book Club
Lecture about female mangaka and their impact on Japanese society and the world of graphic novels in the Kimono Dressing Booth at 11:00 a.m.
★ Martial Arts on the Lawn
Traditional Japanese martial arts demonstrations. Festival guests will have the chance to try Naginata!
