Part 1: Polishing Intuition
Since ancient times, the Japanese have distinguished the meanings of words with the same pronunciation by subtle differences in sound. In Jissyo Kannon (Instinct moments) we conduct performances and workshops that involve "intuitively" perceiving the resonance and meaning of a single word each time. In Part 1, we express the resonance of the word "uruou" (meaning moisture) from various perspectives through calligraphy and music.
Part 2: Workshop
There are kanji characters associated with the kun'yomi reading "uruou," such as "潤" (moisture), "湿" (damp), "露" (dew), and "握" (grasp) (from Shizuka Shirakawa's "Joyou Kai"). This workshop aims to deeply connect the participants' expressions with this live event by making sounds while observing the writing, holding a brush while listening to the sounds, and letting it run on paper.
※ Brushes will be provided. For those who wish to participate with musical instruments, please bring your instrument. We kindly ask that the instruments be played unplugged (acoustic sound) only.
Part 3: Creating the Moment through Improvisation
Building upon Parts 1 and 2, we will create a space of free improvisation where performers and the audience become one. By listening to the sounds, gazing at the writing, playing instruments during the workshop, and letting the brush run, we will witness a final improvisational performance that is delicate yet powerful.
