KitKat replaces their Plastic packaging to Recyclable Paper
In September 2019, Nestlé raised their effort to resolve the plastic waste problem in Japanese markets - where they sell the most “KitKat” in the world. The conventional plastic wrapping has been changed to a recyclable paper for their top5 most popular items. With this, Nestlé Japan expects to reduce plastic by about 380 tons per year!
The "paper crane" has traditionally been a Japanese symbol for delivering one's thoughts and prayers to another. With the paper packaging used for KitKat, they are taking on a new brand approach by putting emphasis on communication; making it an option for conveying feelings, support, and gratitude to family members and close friends.
Christmas Tree - Decorated with Paper Cranes
During this Christmas season, the "KitKat Chocolatory Ginza" main branch will be decorated with paper crafts from their windows to the ceiling! There will also be a Paper Christmas Tree installment which people can decorate with their "Paper Crane" filled with heartfelt messages to their loved ones. This will be an event where everyone can celebrate.
Papers used for the Christmas Tree and decoration set-up will be recycled after the event. This will then be converted to a souvenir that is scheduled to be distributed to customers at the KitKat Chocolatory store.
Mr.Noppo (Takami Noppo) who made an appearance in the new TV commercial also wrote a message in support of the new wrapping scheme. His paper crane will also be on display at the store.
As with the Ginza main store, "KitKat Chocolatory'' in Itami Airport Store, Shinjuku Takashimaya Store, Lazona Kawasaki Store, and Sogo Hiroshima Store will also have a miniature paper tree at the storefront from November 16 (Saturday). This will also be decorated with Mr.Noppo's paper crane.
