HIROMI ASAI - Kimono to the World as Fashion

HIROMI ASAI, a fashion brand from New York, develops and sells menswear in the European and American market by using fabrics that are developed together with kimono craftsmen. The Spring / Summer 2020 Menswear collection, which was unveiled at the New York Collection and the Paris Collection fashion show in September 2019, will be available at select shops in New York Soho, Flying Solo.

HIROMI ASAI sells men's wear made in Japan with advanced sewing techniques using fabrics that are developed with kimono craftsmen - sold in the European and American markets.

Designer Hiromi Asai officially exhibited in the New York Collection in February 2016, realizing the first ever kimono runway show in the world's four largest collections.

As the demand for kimono declines and the traditional techniques for making kimono are at risk, his desire to pass on the traditional techniques of kimono craftsmanship to the next generation, as well as his challenge to the global market is found in the essence of kimono using the material and fabric; not by its form. With basis on the advanced production techniques of kimono fabrics, Asai have jointly developed fabrics for western clothing with craftsmen in Kyoto and Tango, and proposed the New York style HIROMI ASAI men's collection which shows the sensibility of female designers.

The brand continues its commitment to make everything in japan from the sewing process. Since presenting the collection in each season of Pitti Uomo from 2017, the world's largest men's clothing exhibition held in Florence Italy, the brand has been attracting a lot of attention.

The New York Collection runway show

In April 2019, Asai signed a contract with Flying Solo, a select shop in SoHo, New York, which has introduced and selected up-and-coming designers; and sales of the HIROMI ASAI men's collection have begun.

A joint fashion show was held at the New York Collection and Paris Collection in September 2019 where the HIROMI ASAI Spring / Summer 2020 Menswear Collection was announced. The theme of the collection is “天地創世 -Tenchi Sosei- Creation of the World”. The collection of real kimonos were sublimated into luxury fashion, and incorporating Japanese motifs, this proposed a collection that can be worn in a wide range of situations beyond the cultural background.

The Spring / Summer 2020 collection presented at these fashion shows can be purchased from late October at the select shop Flying Solo in SoHo, New York. Buyers, presses and stylists can see and try the entire collection for in the attached showroom.

HIROMI ASAI aims to bring “Kimono into the world as a fashion” by making full use of kimono craftsman's weave and dye fabric-techniques that were handed down in Japan for a long time; as well as Japan's precise and advanced sewing techniques. HIROMI ASAI propose to expand the collection sales network all over the world.
